Executive Vice President of Workers’ Compensation and Strategic Accounts
Jeff Benintendi is executive vice president of workers’ compensation and strategic accounts for Motorists Insurance Group. He has 30 years of experience in the insurance industry. After graduating from Colorado State University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science in business administration, concentration in finance, Jeff started his career in claims, ultimately operating as regional claim manager for Orion Capital’s excess and surplus lines division, handling commercial auto, trucking, general liability, medical malpractice and umbrella business.
Jeff was promoted to director of finance and accounting at Orion where he served in that capacity for three years. Jeff led the accounting and finance division through integration efforts resulting from two mergers/acquisitions. Jeff then made the jump to workers’ compensation in 2001 joining Pinnacol Assurance. He served as associate vice president with accountability for four profit centers and operated as head of underwriting for Pinnacol’s $600 million book of workers’ compensation business.
In 2007, Jeff joined BrickStreet and has served as executive vice president, chief underwriting officer and COO. He led the reorganization of its operations to a customer-centric profit center through 2007-2008, regional expansion beginning in 2009, creating two regional offices in Naperville and Charlotte, and delivered an underwriting profit on the workers’ compensation book 10 of the 11 years with the organization.
Gregory A. Burton
Greg Burton has been executive chair of Motorists Insurance Group since its affiliation with BrickStreet Mutual closed in April 2017. Greg became BrickStreet’s chief executive officer and president when the company launched in 2006. In May 2015 he became chief executive officer – a position he held until April 2017. Greg also continues to serve on the BrickStreet board of directors as executive chair.
Greg previously led the West Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission, which was losing approximately $1 million per business day before he became executive director in 2003. During Greg’s tenure, he and his team played a central role in West Virginia’s successful workers’ compensation system reform.
Greg has more than 30 years of management experience in the insurance and financial services industries and in both state and local government. Greg holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Kentucky and a Bachelor of Science in business, with a concentration in management and marketing from the University of Charleston.
Grady Campbell, CIC, AAI
Executive Vice President, Commercial Lines and Life
Grady Campbell is executive vice president, commercial lines and life of Motorists Insurance Group. Grady is a graduate of Cleveland State University with a Bachelor in Business Administration and the University of Wisconsin’s Executive Program. He has more than 29 years of marketing, field underwriting and management experience with Motorists Insurance Group and other property and casualty insurance companies.
He serves on the Advisory Board of IVANS Insurance Solutions, a leading technology provider and longstanding partner to the property and casualty insurance industry, and is a member of the board of trustees for Ohio Dominican University. Grady holds the Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) and Accredited Adviser in Insurance (AAI) designations. He is active in the insurance industry and is a member of the National Alliance for Insurance Education and Society of Certified Insurance Counselors.
J. Christopher Howat, CPA
Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer
J. Christopher Howat is executive vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer for Motorists Insurance Group. He served previously as chief financial officer, senior vice president and treasurer for BrickStreet. Prior to that, he was CFO of the West Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission (WVWCC), which he joined in September 2003. Chris worked closely with Greg Burton and T.J. Obrokta throughout the successful reform of West Virginia’s workers’ compensation system.
Chris has more than 25 years of experience both in private company financial management and public accounting. Before he joined the WVWCC, Chris was vice president and controller for a leading owner and manager of group health care facilities in West Virginia. He also spent eight years in public accounting and consulting with Arnett & Foster PLLC (now Arnett Carbis Toothman PLLC), where he managed the Consulting Services Department responsible for auditing, business valuation and other services.
Chris earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration, with an emphasis in accounting, from West Virginia University. He completed his Certified Public Accountant designation and is a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the West Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Dave L. Kaufman, ACAS, MAAA
Chief Executive Officer
Dave Kaufman is the CEO of Motorists Insurance Group. Dave started his career as an actuary with Connecticut General and then as a financial analyst with Capital Holding Corporation. He joined Motorists in 1986 and has served in a number of leadership roles, including appointed actuary, mergers and acquisitions, commercial lines and information technology.
Dave joined the executive leadership team in 2000 and has served there since. While playing varsity basketball for Ohio Wesleyan University, Dave earned bachelor’s degrees in mathematics and economics, graduating cum laude. He is a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer
John Kessler is the senior vice president and chief strategy officer for Motorists Insurance Group. John joined Motorists after graduating from University of Mount Union with a Bachelor of Science in computer science. Since then, John has served the company in many capacities, including the strategy and launch of Motorists Insurance, the group’s commercial lines company built with superior technology and launched May 2017.
Vice President and Chief Claims Officer
Teresa King is the vice president and chief claims officer for Motorists Insurance Group with 36 years of multiline claims experience. Teresa started her career as a claims adjuster for Motorists and has served in many leadership positions since then. Teresa oversees all property and casualty claims operations for the group.
Teresa is an active member of the community, serving as a mentor for the United Way’s E3 program to educate, elevate and empower women in transition by matching members from the Women’s Leadership Council. Teresa also serves on the fundraising committee for Women of Promise to raise funds for the New Directions Career Center. She delivers meals monthly for Meals on Wheels. Teresa received her Bachelor of Science in education, English and physical education from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) and holds the designation as a chartered property casualty underwriter (CPCU).
Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer
Tony Laska is executive vice president and chief information officer for Motorists Insurance Group, where he ensures all technology systems are running smoothly, not only to resolve any potential issues for customers effectively and efficiently, but also to ensure staff members don’t have to think about it.
He has more than 25 years of experience in information technology in the private sector. Prior to joining BrickStreet in March 2008, Tony was an assistant vice president at Allstate Insurance Co., where he led several application development teams responsible for policy processing systems on the property and casualty side. Tony also was on the team that created Progressive’s innovative quoting system, which allows comparative pricing with other large competitors.
He started his career at Babcock & Wilcox in Lynchburg, Va., after earning a Bachelor of Applied Science in mathematics at Penn State and a Master of Arts in industrial management at Lynchburg College in Virginia. Tony also is an active volunteer with Special Olympics.
Teresa J. “Terri” McCormick
Senior Vice President of Human Resources
Teresa J. “Terri” McCormick is senior vice president of human resources for Motorists Insurance Group. She is responsible for talent management, employee relations, organization design, payroll, compensation, learning and development as well as benefits administration. She has more than 25 years of human resources and labor relations management experience in private industry, including hospital and chemical manufacturing.
Terri holds a Bachelor of Science in business management from West Virginia State College and is certified as a Senior Professional Human Resources through the Society of Human Resources Management. She was inducted into the West Virginia Society of Human Resources Professionals Hall of Fame in 2011 and was selected as the 2012 Human Resources Professional of the Year by the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce. Terri also is a 2004 graduate and a lifetime member of Leadership West Virginia.
William J. McGee Jr.
Senior Vice President and Chief Risk Officer
William J. McGee Jr. is senior vice president and chief risk officer for Motorists Insurance Group. He is responsible for overseeing the enterprise risk management, information security, compliance and claims litigation functions of the Group.
Bill was previously general counsel and chief risk and compliance officer for BrickStreet; he also had a distinguished career at Jenkins Fenstermaker PLLC, in Huntington, West Virginia. While in private practice, Bill focused his practice on corporate taxation, ERISA compliance and general business law.
Bill holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Northwestern University and is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College of Law.
Marchelle E. Moore
Senior Vice President, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary
Marchelle E. Moore is senior vice president, chief legal officer and corporate secretary for Motorists Insurance Group. She is responsible for leading strategic and tactical legal initiatives and provides the executive and senior leadership teams with competent legal advice on company strategies and their implementation. Prior to joining Motorists Insurance Group, Marchelle served as Central Ohio Transit Authority’s (COTA) vice president of legal and government affairs and general counsel. She has also worked for the Franklin County Common Pleas Court as well as being an assistant city attorney for the Columbus City Attorney’s Office.
Marchelle is a director of the Ohio Insurance Guaranty Association and a member of the National Council for The Ohio State University College of Law. Marchelle was admitted to the State of Ohio Bar after obtaining her juris doctor degree from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from The Ohio State University.
Thomas J. “T.J.” Obrokta Jr.
President and Chief Operating Officer
Thomas J. “T.J.” Obrokta Jr. is president and chief operating officer of Motorists Insurance Group. He first served as BrickStreet’s general counsel, senior vice president and secretary when the company was launched in 2006. He became its chief operating officer in 2012 and gave up his general counsel position in June 2014 to focus on operations. He was BrickStreet’s president from May 2015 until BrickStreet’s affiliation with Motorists closed in April 2017.
Before helping to launch BrickStreet, T.J. was general counsel of the West Virginia Workers' Compensation Commission and was part of the team that played a central role in the successful reform of West Virginia's workers' compensation system. T.J. has nearly 20 years of legal experience in both the public and private sectors.
He is a graduate of the West Virginia University College of Law and holds a bachelor of arts degree in economics from Columbia University.
Charles D. Stapleton, CPCU, ARM
Executive Vice President
Charles began his career with Motorists in 1983 in Marketing. From 1992 to 2002, he held several leadership roles, and in 2012 was appointed senior vice president of property and casualty marketing. He is now executive vice president, focusing on integration and organizational management. He is a graduate of Bluffton College and holds the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designations.
Matthew C. Wilcox, CPCU
Executive Vice President, Personal Lines
Matthew C. Wilcox is executive vice president, personal lines at Motorists Insurance Group. He is a graduate of University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor of Arts degree and has been in the insurance industry for more than 33 years.
Prior to his current position, Matt spent more than 10 years with MAPFRE USA as the senior vice president, chief technical officer with responsibility for product management, underwriting, actuarial, predictive analytics and commercial lines. He started his career with MAPFRE USA as vice president, product management. Matt also held senior-level positions with Travelers Insurance and USAA Insurance, and he spent nearly 20 years with MetLife Auto & Home in a number of regional and corporate-level product and underwriting positions.
Matt has served as a member of The Institutes CPCU Society Underwriting Section Committee and as the Executive Committee Chair and Board Vice Chair of the Massachusetts Property Insurance Underwriting Association. Matt holds the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation.
